Abstract
Purpose: This research was aimed to investigate the correlation between ages and high order aberrations at the ages which change the pattern of ocular growth and refractive abnormalities.

Methods: The ocular aberrations of 161 normal Korean eyes in their 10s to 60s with the best corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better was measured by using the retinoscopic aberrometer (OPD Scan II¢ç). Total internal high order aberrations (HOAs) including entire eye, the cornea, and the lens, spherical aberration, and coma aberration were measured and analyzed according to the age.

Results: In the ages between 10s and 20s in which eyeballs grow, total HOAs and coma aberration decreased among the aberrations however, spherical aberration did not change with age. At the ages, all aberrations of the cornea and interior were not correlated with aging. In the ages between 20s and 60s in which eyeballs growing stops, total ocular HOAs decreased and coma and spherical aberrations increased with aging however, the corneal aberrations did not change. At the ages, total internal HOAs and spherical aberration decreased however, coma aberration was not changed. Total ocular HOAs and spherical aberration in the age between 40s to 60s in which the presbyopia begins were not changed however, coma aberration significantly increased with age. At the ages, all corneal and internal aberrations were not correlated with age.

Conclusions: In this study, it was revealed that the correlation between high order aberrations and age depending on each anatomical part of the eyes in the age groups in which the ocular growth and refractive abnormalities change. This difference of high order aberrations seems to be one of the major causes of age-related changes in visual acuity and visual quality.
